6 - Looper

This week we tried out a new format.

We opened with what we've been doing this week. Chris is almost done with a Song of Ice and Fire, Tyler watched FAQ About Time Travel and I read a short story called Cream.

Then we talked about Looper. Gave it out review and broke it down.

We closed with some light discussion about S.H.I.E.L.D, Joss Whedon and some other stuff.

We didn't have any topics this week. So it's a free form show. New format next week.

We talk about the difference between Game of Thrones the book and the TV show and does having a famous actor distract you from the character. We also talk more about Doctor Who. We're not a doctor who podcast, we swear.

Chris brings up humor in our works, and we discuss how to do it without changing the tone of a work. We then hop over firefly into a discussion of how to tell world building to the reader.

Tyler sort of brings up an actual topic in the comic Irredeemable by Mark Waid
We talk ways to do characters to and use examples from Firefly and Game of the Thrones.

We talk stories across different mediums and Tyler recommends Rising Stars and then proceeds to spoil it pretty thoroughly, so check it out.

I talk about a comic Idea I was playing with and move into a discussion about writing in comics as a medium.

Then we talk Movies, TV, HBO and boobs. Cause who doesn't like boobs?

Part Two

Tyler leaves, we continues talking game of thrones and move into a discussion of chapter formats.
We then talk about characters, their motivations and backgrounds informing their dialog and
actions without resorting to exposition dumping.

We also talk about Microsoft one note for a bit. We then get back to characters and give some our examples from our own writing.

We talk about stories and arcs and a bunch of writing craft related things. There is a discussion of easter eggs, and the difference between theft and homage. Narration in other mediums, Burn Notice
and actors playing characters. We then finish up with a light discussion of Doctor Who Companions.

Skyrim and Fallout, a comparison of Worlds.

Time Travel. We had a more centralized focus for this topic, but it got away from us. As the wibbly wobbly tends to do. During this topic Chris got interrupted and didn't mute his mic, so the audio gets a little garbled. He will mute his mic in the future or we will skin him alive. We also go on a bit of a historical tangent toward the end. We will be better about that in the future.

CORRECTION:

Tyler texted me after recording this. Killing kids in games isn't illegal in US law, but in the industry would almost guarantee an Adults Only rating, leading to most carries to ban your games.

First episode, already getting things wrong. Off to a great start.
